Dear [Rep. ] [Sen. ] [President ] XXXX,
Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, recently warned that humanity was “just one misunderstanding, one miscalculation away from nuclear annihilation”. Indeed, the possibility of nuclear annihilation is the greatest existential threat faced by humanity and most other forms of life on our earth. If humanity cannot totally eliminate these weapons, at some point they will be used either by accident or by design, and that will likely be the end of most life on earth. We must stop depending on ‘dumb luck’ to save us and act now to universally abolish these weapons.
Since the United States was the first country to develop these weapons and the only country to ever detonate them on population centers, the United States has a special duty and moral obligation to lead the world in bringing together nuclear armed nations to negotiate the elimination of these weapons. For this reason, I am asking you to now publicly support and advocate the Global Zero Four Phase Plan (https://www.globalzero.org/reaching-zero/) for achieving the universal abolition of nuclear weapons. The universal abolition of nuclear weapons can be achieved, but it will require your support and the support of many others.
I hope you will consider my request seriously and understand how important it is. I can think of no mission or cause that is more important than this.
Sincerely, xxxxxxxxx
